Venz Chocolate Sprinkles
It all started with Hendrik de Vries at the end of the 19th century. In 1890 he started a wholesale business in chocolate and confectionery in Amsterdam. Four years later, in 1894, his second son Gerard was born. The name VENZ was created from the name de Vries EN Zonen.
When Gerard is 15 years old, he starts the business with his father. Gerard focuses on the production of chocolate and confectionery. The company is doing so well that in 1928 already four buildings were needed to be able to make everything. Because they want to make everything under one roof, they look for a larger Venz factory. In 1930 this factory in Vaassen (Gelderland) is opened. In the beginning, this factory only made sugar confectionery, such as lollipops and breast plate. A few years later, the production of chocolate bars, tablets and bonbons also started. Venz has been making chocolate sprinkles since 1936 and nobody knows exactly how they came up with the idea.

De Ruijter Chocolate Sprinkles
In 1957 it was already time for the next innovation: chocolate sprinkles! The reason for this was that Erven de Jong's chocolate factory closed down, so that various machines and three professionals could be taken over by De Ruijter. This ensured that a start could be made with the production of chocolate sprinkles. The year 1957 was also the year of the spending cut; nevertheless it went well for De Ruijter. Cees De Ruijter used to say: 'We don't have to worry about the bad times, because the worse the times are, the more sprinkles people will eat on their bread'.
